As the Sunshine Coast’s annual community planting season kickoff event and One Straw fundraiser, Seedy Saturday is always loaded with opportunities to connect with other garden enthusiasts and food producers on the Coast.  Fibreshed will be there displaying fabric and fibre dyed with plants grown on the Sunshine Coast, local fleece and beautiful naturally dyed pieces of clothing made by members of the Sunshine Coast Spinners and Weavers Guild. June 11 – Wool’n Ewe A-Faire
Alice McKay Building at the Cloverdale Rodeo Fairgrounds 6050 – 176 Street Cloverdale (entrance off of 60th Ave.)  10 am-4 pm, Saturday June 11.
Hand shearing, spinning, weaving, felting and sheep to shawl demonstrations  Meet local sheep producers and artists, see how a fleece is judged, bid on award winning fleeces at a live auction, learn about different breeds of sheep.  Members of the Fibreshed team will have a display at Wool’n Ewe and will be searching for more sources of quality B.C. fibre to add to our Resource List. http://www.lmspa.ca/general-information

March 12 – One Straw’s Seedy Saturday
Roberts Creek Hall
A wonderful day for gardeners to buy and exchange seeds and live plants.  Workshops and a farmers market outside.  The Fbreshed will be there with our display of fabric and fibre dyed with plants grown on the Sunshine Coast, local fleece and beautiful naturally dyed pieces of clothing made by members of the Sunshine Coast Spinners and Weavers Guild. Japanese indigo seeds will be available for sale.

March 18,19 – Fibres West
Cloverdale Exhibition Grounds, Surrey
Fibre workshops, lectures and vendors.  A wonderful opportunity to buy fibre produced in British Columbia for your Fibreshed projects.  Members of the Fibreshed team will be visiting Fibres West to buy fibre and search for more sources of quality B.C. fibre to add to our Resource List.

“SEEKING LOCAL FLEECE”
The Sunshine Coast Fibreshed team and the Sunshine Coast Spinners and Weavers Guild invite producers of local animal fibres  to join us SUNDAY, APRIL 10, 2016 at Fibre Works Studio & Gallery, Madeira Park, 11:00-3:00, for“Grown and Sewn Close to Home” an opportunity to share with each other.

April 23 -Learn to Spin Yarn on a Drop Spindle
Fibreshed Designer and Artisan Producer Verna Chan teaches the basics of drop-spindle spinning as well as what to do with raw fibre and what you can do with your first yarn after you’ve finished spinning it.  Cost $70 includes supplies (spindle and yarn).  Arts Building, 464 South Fletcher, Gibsons.  10 am-12 pm.  Register online: http://artsbuilding.org/learn-to-spin-your-own-yarn/

April 24 – Earth Day
This is a day to celebrate the Earth and our wonderful community and enjoy music, good food and environmentally focused enterprises.  The Fibreshed will be at Earth Day with a display, demonstrations and the opportunity to experience working with local fibre.  Roberts Creek pier. Sunday April 24, 12 pm – 5 pm.  Fibreshed Vendors and Producers:  You are welcome to offer your products for sale.  We ask that you take responsibility for your items and donate 10% of any sales to the Fibreshed.

Sunshine Coast Spinners and Weavers Fibres Plus Sale

This juried event attracts people from up and down the Coast as well as from the mainland. Every item—handspun yarns, weaving, felting, knitting—is made by hand by members of the Sunshine Coast Spinners & Weavers Guild.  You can watch demonstrations, see a special Fibreshed display, a colourful Dyer’s Garden display and talk with Fibreshed people and natural dyers.  We will have Fibreshed items for sale so watch for the special Fibreshed tags which follow the making of the garment from sheep to finished product.
