Heather Apple

I was introduced to dyeing with plants in 1980 when I discovered Karen Casselman’s ‘Craft of the Dyer’.  I moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2003 and soon after became involved with the Sunshine Coast Spinners and Weavers Guild – a very warm and supportive community of talented fibre artists and artisans.  I learned to spin and then took up knitting to do something with all the spun yarn I was creating!  I’ve spent much of my adult life working with organic growing and plant biodiversity so I was very attracted to the Fibreshed.

My inspiration comes from Nature, the magical and mysterious and my inner life.  I especially enjoy natural dyeing and have a large dye garden.  I spin, knit, felt and also do mixed media work with fibre and materials from Nature.  I especially love making little beings and creatures, books, bags, treasure holders and things magical.
